PHAROS
The EU has set bold quantified and measurable targets to achieve its Ocean Mission objectives relating to: protecting and restoring marine ecosystems and biodiversity; preventing and eliminating pollution of our ocean; and making the sustainable blue economy carbon-neutral and circular by 2030.The EU Mission Implementation Plan has two demanding, but necessarily near-term phases: the first ‘development and piloting’ phase 1 by 2025, and the second ‘deployment and upscaling’ phase 2 from 2026-2030. Following consultations with Lighthouse Coordination and Support (CSA) project PREP4BLUE, as well as current Blue Park and Lighthouse projects, it was determined that to substantially, effectively and realistically contribute to the 2030 targets with this project’s expected start date in 2024, PHAROS must be an action orientated project, following the earlier foundation and preparation type projects...
